چکیده
INTRODUCTION Adenocarcinomas of the cardia are the lesions arising from the proximal stomach or within 3cm of the gastroesophageal junction. These cancers tended to be advanced at the time of presentation, usually with poor prognosis. In recent decade, the incidence of adenocarcinoma of gastric cardia and esophagus are increasing steadily, while there has been a decrease in the proportion of the cancers arising from the distal stomach. The biological and epidemiological features of the cardia adenocarc inoma were distinct from those arising from the distal stomach. The specific etiologic factors involved in the increasing incidence remained unresolved. Significantly higher levels of DNA aneuloidy, p53 protein expression and mutations have been reported in gastric cardia tumors, compared with tumors arising in the gastric antrum. p53 expression may be used as a marker in the early detection of cardia adenocarcinoma, mutations of p53 gene at specific codons in human cancers may be an indication of specific exposure or genomic susceptibility, and may serve as a reporter gene reflecting exposure to specific carcinogen. The previous studies. Suggested that the mutation and functional inactivation of p53 gene might play some important roles in the carcinogenesis of cardia adenocarcinomas etiologically. In this study, the p53 gene mutation spectrum and protein overexpression were investigated in the cardia adenocarcinoma from a high-incidence area of Southwest China, comparison of mutation spectra was made with those in cardia adenocarcinomas from other regions, some clues may be drawn to the etiology and carcinogenesis of cardia adenocarcinomas in the local area.

Lack of Mutation in the Hot Spot Region of the Human P53 Gene in a Number of Iranian Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients
Objectives and Background: Mutation directed inactivation of the tumor suppressor gene p53 have been found incountries with high frequency for hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). Our goal in the present study was screening of the p53 gene in tumor tissues from HCC affected individuals in southwest Iran for putative mutations in exons 7 and 8 that are known as hot spot regions. متن کاملClinical significance of p53 mutations in adenocarcinoma of the esophagus and cardia.
OBJECTIVE To compare the frequency and spectrum of p53 gene mutations in adenocarcinomas of the esophagus and cardia and to compare clinical and pathologic features in patients with p53 mutant and nonmutant cancers. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA The p53 gene is commonly mutated in human cancers, and a p53 mutation is reported to be present in more than 50% of esophageal adenocarcinomas. Although ma...
متن کاملRelationship between p53 expression and gastric cancers in cardia and antrum.
BACKGROUND The mutations in p53 gene and accumulation of p53 protein are the most common genetic events in gastric carcinomas. The present study was conducted to compare the frequency of p53 gene overexpression in a consecutive series of adenocarcinomas arising from the cardia and the antrum. This study also evaluates the associations of this gene expression with demographic and clinicopatholog...

AIM To compare the frequency and type of p53 alterations (gene mutation and/or protein overexpression) in a consecutive series of surgically resected adenocarcinomas arising in the gastric cardia and gastric antrum, and to evaluate associations with clinicopathological findings (age, sex, and tumour histology, grade, and stage). METHODS The series comprised 50 patients with adenocarcinoma of ...
متن کاملP53 antigen expression in cutaneous Melanoma and its relation to tumor thickness
Background: P53 tumor suppressor gene mutation is one of the most common genetic alterations in human malignancies. The mutated from of the gene is stable and can be detected with immunohistochemistry methods. There is much controversy about the expression rate of this gene in malignant melanoma. Objective: To determine the frequency of the P53 antigen expression by sex, age, type and thickness...
